  • Villa S. Anna 2012 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano

    Montepulciano, Tuscany

    Red wine from Italy

    Drinking window: 2016 - 2028

  • Villa S. Anna's 2012 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano is powerful, dense and explosive, with fabulous depth and exceptional balance. Succulent black cherry, tobacco, smoke, licorice and wild herbs race across the palate in a deep, luscious Vino Nobile loaded with personality and class. There is so much to like here.

Villa S. Anna

Villa S. Anna seems to fly under the radar, but the wines can be terrific, as they are once again this year. With the exception of the Poldo (which I did not taste this year) the wines tend to be rendered in a mid-weight, classically leaning style that showcases the purity of Sangiovese and other mostly native varieties in Montepulciano.

  • Villa S. Anna 2013 Chianti Colli Senesi

    Montepulciano, Tuscany

    Red wine from Italy

    Drinking window: 2016 - 2023

  • The 2013 Chianti Colli Senesi is absolutely a gorgeous wine. Dark cherry, smoke, leather, licorice and tobacco are all pushed forward, but it is the wine's super-classic profile and overall feel that are most impressive.

  • Villa S. Anna 2013 Rosso di Montepulciano

    Montepulciano, Tuscany

    Red wine from Italy

    Drinking window: 2016 - 2023

  • The 2013 Rosso di Montepulciano is another terrific, budget-friendly wine from Villa S. Anna. Succulent red cherry, tobacco, anise and herbs flesh out as the 2013 shows off its striking, expressive personality. Deeply flavored yet very much classically mid-weight in its structure, the 2013 hits all the right notes. In this tasting, the 2013 is absolutely sublime. Dollops of Merlot, Mammolo, Canaiolo, Colorino and Cabernet Sauvignon round out the blend.
